Miller Records 1,000th Career Point As Vikings Fall At IUPUI

CLEVELAND, Ohio– The Cleveland State women's basketball team opened the second half of Horizon League play Thursday, dropping a hard fought 58-48 contest at IUPUI. The Vikings now stand at 15-6 overall this season and 5-5 in #HLWBB play.

Mariah Miller Joins 1,000-Point Club
With a three-pointer at the 7:24 mark of the second quarter, senior Mariah Miller eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career, finishing the game with 1,009 points as the 30th Viking all-time to reach the milestone.

· Mariah Miller and Mariah White led the Viking offense, Miller finishing with 19 points and White posting 11 points.
· Savanna Crockett and Mariah Miller both recorded a team-best seven rebounds on the game.
· As a team, the Vikings grabbed eight steals, including four from Mariah White.

Game Notes
· Savanna Crockett improved on her career blocked shot total after finishing with one block against the Jaguars, and now has 67 career blocks to rank 10th in the CSU Career Record Book.
· With her four steals against IUPUI, Mariah White has now posted four or more steals in nine games this season.
· Mariah Miller has posted 15+ points in 16 games so far this season, including six against Horizon League opponents.

The Game
Cleveland State was able to keep the contest close throughout the first 20 minutes of action behind 15 first half points from Mariah Miller, as the Vikings went into the halftime break trailing by just five points at 31-26.

IUPUI then used a 9-2 run over the first part of the third quarter to gain a double-digit lead at 40-28, before a pair of Savanna Crockett free throws at the 4:45 mark stopped the Jaguar run.

The Vikings were able to close the gap to single digits just three minutes later, as a JaMiya Braxton three-pointer off of a Mariah White steal put the score at 42-33 IUPUI with 1:59 left on the clock. The two teams then traded baskets throughout the remainder of the frame, as IUPUI held a 44-35 advantage heading into the fourth and final quarter.

After trading baskets to begin the final 10 minutes of action, the Vikings were able to post four straight points on a pair of Jade Ely free throws and a White jumper, closing the gap to seven points at 48-41 with 4:46 left to play.

Although the Vikings were able to string together a pair of strong defensive possessions, IUPUI responded with a 7-0 run of its own, to regain a double-digit lead at 55-41 with just over two minutes left on the clock. The Jaguars were then able to control play throughout the closing minutes, coming away with the 58-48 victory.
