Women’s Basketball Defeats Oakland As Trio of Vikings Notch Career-High Games

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a trio of career-highs, the Cleveland State women's basketball team went 2-0 on this weekend's homestand, picking up a 98-90 victory against Oakland. With the win, the Vikings improved to 9-13 overall this season and 6-5 in Horizon League play.

The Game
After coming out of the halftime break trailing 53-49, Cleveland State posted a 6-0 run over the opening minutes of the third quarter, regaining a 56-53 advantage following a pair of Mariah Miller free throws.

The two teams then traded leads over the remainder of the frame, until Savanna Crockett converted a layup as time was expiring to give Cleveland State a slight two-point lead at 74-72 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Cleveland State opened the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run, gaining its first double-digit lead of the contest at 84-74 with 7:38 left on the clock. During this stretch, Cleveland State got a pair of three-pointers from Isabelle Gradwell and JaMiya Braxton, while Savanna Crockett went 2-for-2 from the free throw line and Rachel Slaney converted a jumper.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next three minutes, until the Vikings posted four straight points to gain their largest lead of the game at 90-79.

This lead wouldn't last long though, as Oakland responded with a 7-0 run of its own, closing the gap to just four points at 90-86 with just over two minutes left to play.

The Vikings were able to stop the Oakland run with back-to-back layups from White and Crockett, and then went on to hold the advantage for the remainder of the contest, coming away with the 98-90 victory.
