Ely Named Horizon League Freshman Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – After helping Cleveland State to a weekend split in the final week of the regular season, women's basketball rookie Jade Ely has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week. This marks the third weekly honor for Ely this season.

To close out the regular season, Ely helped the Vikings to a split against Detroit and Oakland last weekend, as Cleveland State secured the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament following the week's action.

For the week, Ely averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, and posted a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the free throw line.

Entering Horizon League play, Ely is averaging 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds and has appeared in 27 games – missing the first two games of the season due to injury. Ely has also earned a starting nod in 13 games this year, including 12 during Horizon League play.

Ely and the Vikings will begin play in the 2017 Horizon League Tournament on Sunday, March 5, as the sixth-seeded Vikings will take on No. 3 Detroit in a second round contest at 12:00 p.m. This year's Horizon League Tournament will take place at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
