CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team added a sixth member to its incoming class for the 2013-14 season Wednesday morning (June 19), as 5'-10" guard Alexis Eckles has decided to join the Viking program. Eckles, a sophomore transfer from Drake University, will join CSU for the upcoming season, but will not be eligible to play until the 2014-15 season with three years of eligibility remaining.

"It is with great joy that we welcome Alexis to our women's basketball family at Cleveland State," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "Without question she is a great fit for our team and our style of play, and will also be a great representative of the University. She is both skilled and athletic - which is a great combination in a guard. She will have the opportunity to impact our program on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court and I am very excited about her future here at Cleveland State."

Eckles played her first year of collegiate basketball for the Drake Bulldogs, appearing in 20 games averaging 6.2 minutes per contest. She posted 1.4 points per game and 1.5 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs, who went 11-20 overall and 5-13 in the Missouri Valley last season.

The Milwaukee, Wis. native is a graduate of Rufus King High School where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Generals. Throughout her prep career, Eckles led Rufus King to two state championship appearances (Senior & Freshman), finishing as runner-up both times. As a junior she averaged 13.4 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game to garner Associated Press First Team All-State, while she was also named Milwaukee Journal All-Area First Team as a senior.

Eckles along with five incoming freshmen (Olivia Voskuhl, Chrishna Butler, Khayla Livingston, Brooke Thompson-Smith and Alliyah Anderson), will join a Viking squad that returns six letterwinners from last season including three starters.
