July 25, 2001

Two Cleveland State wrestlers, Russ Davie and Gerald Harris II, were both ranked in Wrestling Report's Preseason Top 20, released July 24. Davie and Harris, who both took a redshirt year last season, will look to anchor the Viking squad for the upcoming season.

Davie, a Perrysburg, Ohio native, checked in 12th nationally. The sophomore heavyweight qualified for the NCAA Tournament during his freshman year in 2000 and was named the Eastern Wrestling League's Freshman-of-the-Year. In May Davie became a U.S. National Team Member by placing seventh in Greco-Roman style in the U.S. Open. He currently ranks 6th in Greco-Roman in the senior division and 2nd in his age group.

Harris, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, ranks in at 18th in the nation at 174 pounds. Harris was a 1999 NCAA Qualifier as a freshman. In his first two seasons he won 53 matches, including 26 as a freshman, tying a CSU record. Harris red-shirted last season, but won the Eastern Michigan Open, Ashland Eagle Open, Cleveland State Open and placed second in the Oklahoma Open as an unattached wrestler.
