Four Vikings Place At FILA Junior Nationals

Cleveland, Ohio - Four Cleveland State wrestlers placed in the Greco-Roman competition at the FILA Junior Nationals Thursday, including Freshman Billy Damiana who qualified for the FILA Junior World Team Trials at 264.5 pounds.

The tournament is being held at the Wolstein Center on the CSU campus and continues through Sunday (April 25).

Also placing in the Greco-Roman competition for CSU were sophomore Aric Thurn who placed seventh at 174 pounds, freshman Shane Stewart (eighth, 163 pounds) and freshman Ryan Houchens (eighth, 211.5 pounds).

The FILA Junior World Team Trials, which Damiana qualified for, will take place on May 29 at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.

Four Vikings will compete in the Open Freestyle Challenge, which takes place today (April 23) beginning at 11:00 a.m., including freshman Zac Zupancic (132 pounds), junior Josh Palivoda (145.5), sophomore Lawrence Cavello (163) and junior Rob Michaels (185).

Finals for the Senior Men's Freestyle will take place on Saturday (April 24) with semifinals, consolations, fifth place and seventh place matches starting at Noon, and the championship finals and third place matches beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Six CSU wrestlers will also be competing in the FILA Junior Freestyle Competition, which will take place on Sunday (April 25) beginning at 9:00 a.m.
