Keller and Michaels Record Victories On Day One Of Midlands Invitational

Evanston, Ill. - Sophomore Jordan Keller recorded two victories during day one of the Midlands Invitational while junior Robbie Michaels posted a major decision in the 165 pound wrestleback.

Keller's first victory came during the first round of action, when he pinned DMarc Spencer of Lincoln College in 3:34, advancing to the second round of the 133 pound weight class. He recorded a 3-2 decision over Josh Statum from Tennessee Chattanooga before falling to Kyle Hutter from Old Dominion in a third round 16-5 major decision.

Keller's loss sent him to the wrestleback where he lost a 3-2 decision to Bill Putman from Purdue University.

Michaels had to wait until the wrestleback of the 165 pound weight class to get his first win of the day, when he recorded a 15-7 major decision over Dan Brascetta of Oregon State. During the second round of the wrestleback, Missouri's Zach Toal recorded a fall by default over Michaels.

Before the wrestleback, Michaels fell to Andy Rendos of Bucknell in a 12-5 decision during the first round.

Also in action for the Vikings during the invitational were Zech Huff (133 pound weight class), Mike Mencini (141), Dan Castillo (149), Marcus Effner (174), Nick Anthony (184), Jeff Schuller (197) and Chris Weber (HWT).

As a team, Cleveland State is tied for 30th with seven points after the first day of competition. Iowa leads all teams with 100 points will Iowa State (92.5), Missouri (73.5), Central Michigan (68.0) and Maryland (51.5) round out the top five.

Action continues tomorrow (Dec. 30) at the Midlands Invitational, with the first rounds of the day beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
