Wrestlers Finish Seventh At Brockport

November 12, 2000

The Cleveland State Viking wrestling squad finished seventh at the Suny Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic on Sunday, November 12. Redshirt freshman Anthony Coleman finished third at 149 lbs. Coleman will open the season as the 149 lb. starter. Co-captain Rocco Mansueto finished fourth at Brockport at 125 lbs. Also finishing fourth in the tournament was heavyweight Don Caramell, who is in his first year with the Vikes after transferring from Gannon.

The Viking redshirts have been strong in unattached tournaments thus far as well. Last year's NCAA qualifier and EWL "Freshman-of-the-Year" Russ Davie placed second at heavyweight at the Ashland Eagle Open. Davie used two pins and one decision to reach the finals. Gerald Harris won his second tournament of the season at 184 lbs., earning a 5-3 decision over Kent State's Nick Magistrelli to capture the Eagle Open for the second consecutive year. Harris also placed first in the Eastern Michigan Open on November 4. 133 lb. redshirt Phil Mansueto also placed first in the Eagle Open, winning a 16-6 major decision over Slippery Rock's Greg McCarty in the finals. Mansueto accompanied Harris to the Eastern Michigan Open and finished second.
