Athens, Ohio - After a 28-20 victory over Appalachian State the Vikings couldn't hold on through two more duals as they fell to The Citadel, 24-13 and Ohio, 41-4 at the Bobcat Duals today. Junior Rob Michaels was the lone Viking to have a perfect 3-0 record on the day, while freshman Chris Weber recorded two wins and one loss.
Michaels posted wins in all three of his 165 weight class matches, recording an 11-3 major decision over Appalachian State, an 8-7 decision over The Citadel and a 13-2 major decision over Ohio's Kevin Christensen.
In the heavyweight matches, Weber earned a 4-3 decision over Ken Altarac from Appalachian State in his first match of the day and topped Ivan Muller from The Citadel, 3-2 in his second match, but fell to Andy Hartshorn from Ohio by a 16-0 technical fall giving him a 2-1 record on the day.
Zachary Zupancic earned a 19-3 technical fall victory over his Appalachian State opponent in the 125-weight class, while Mike Mencini and Jeff Schuller both posted pins against the Mountaineers in 4:00 and 5:26 respectively. Marcus Effner recorded his lone victory of the day against Colt Howell, with an 11-3 major decision in the 174-pound weight class.
Corey Carlo and Nick Anthony were the last Vikings to post victories on the day, with both coming against The Citadel. Carlo recorded a 4-3 decision over Turtogtokh Luvsandori and Anthony earned an 8-0 major decision against Kelby Smith.
Cleveland State returns home next Sunday (Dec. 13) when they host the Cleveland State Open with action beginning at 9:00 a.m.
