St. Louis, MO - Viking heavyweight Rashard Goff's quest for a National title, came up just short after losing his final match of the third session, 7-4 to David Marone of Virginia Tech.
In his first match of the morning session, Goff cruised to a 5-1 decision over Northern Iowa's Christian Brantley.
Goff scored the first points of the contest with a takedown early on in the first period and was able to ride out Brantley for the remainder of the period.
After battling through a scoreless second period, Goff started the position with bottom position and quickly escaped giving him a three point lead at 3-0. He then followed that up with a takedown and with a riding time advantage won 6-1.
In his fourth round consolation match, Goff faced off against Marone of Virginia Tech.
After a scoreless first period, Marone got on the board first with an escape point and followed that up with a takedown giving him a 3-0 lead.
Marone added two additional takedowns in the final two minutes to secure a 7-4 victory over Goff.
Goff finished his Viking career with a EWL championship, four NCAA tournament appearances and 104 wins.
