Goff 1-0 After Session 1

March 19, 2009

St. Louis, MO - In his fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance, Viking co captain Rashard Goff is off to a solid 1-0 start after session one.

In his first match of the day, Goff battled Nate Everhart of Indiana, whom he had beaten earlier this season.

After a scoreless first period, Goff began the second with bottom position. He wasted no time escaping and capturing a one-point lead that he would hold onto for the remainder of the period.

In a thrilling third period, Everhart was able to score an escape of his own to even the match up with just over one minute left. The two heavyweights continued hand fighting until Goff was able to score a takedown in the closing seconds of the match to gain a 3-1 lead and with riding time, won 4-1.

In the evening session, Goff will once again square off with a familiar opponent, Mark Ellis of Missouri, who edged out Goff 3-1 in overtime at the Midlands Invitational.
