CLEVELAND, Ohio - Wins from Brandon Sommers at 157 pounds and Corey Carlo at 165 pounds weren't enough as the Vikings wrestling team dropped its final home match of the season, 36-6 to West Virginia on Sunday (Feb. 19).

Cleveland State closes the regular season with a 6-14 record and 0-6 in the Eastern Wrestling League. West Virginia, fresh off an upset victory over nationally-ranked Edinboro on Saturday (Feb. 18), concludes the regular season with a 9-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the league.

The Vikings dropped the first four bouts of the afternoon before winning two consecutive matches. Included in the slow start were losses to Josh Palivoda (141) and Lawrence Cavello (149), the lone seniors who were honored on Senior Day prior to the match.

Sommers won on a 1-0 count thanks to his 4:00 of riding time. All 10 of his appearances this season have been in duals and he has battled injuries while racking up a 3-7 record.

Carlo's win came on a 2-1 decision. He had a second period reversal that gave him a 2-0 lead. WVU's Kyle Eason had an escape in the third period but didn't score again as Carlo improved to 8-10 in duals.

The Mountaineers took the next three bouts before CSU forfeited the 285 pound match.

Both teams will turn their attention to the Eastern Wrestling League Championships which will be held two weeks from today - March 4 - in Clarion, Pa.
