Goff Records 99th Win On Senior Night

Cleveland, Ohio - Rashard Goff and Antonio Nicholson wins on senior night were not enough for the Vikings as they lost 30-10 to Clarion, Saturday (2/14) in the Woodling Gymnasium. CSU won three matches, unfortunately were unable to overcome two forfeits.

The Vikings fell to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in league action, while Clarion improved to 8-13 overall and 1-4 in league action.

After falling behind 10-0 to the Golden Eagles early, Rashard Goff stepped up and delivered a big win and gave the Vikings their first points of the match.

Goff jumped out to a quick lead after scoring a takedown over Roman Husman and followed that up with three near fall points to take a 5-0 lead after the first period.

Starting the second period neutral, Goff again wasted no time shooting in and scoring his second takedown of the match and after adding an escape point, he led 8-2 at the end of two.

Goff began the third period with bottom position and quickly escaped he followed by scoring another takedown giving him an 11-2 lead with a riding time advantage. Goff maintained pressure and scored a 12-3 major decision victory, his 99th career CSU win.

With the Vikings trailing 22-4, co-captain Antonio Nicholson rose to the occasion on senior night and tallied a big win 7-3 win over Greg Lewis.

Nicholson scored the first points of the contest with a single leg takedown in the closing seconds of the first period giving a 2-0 advantage.

Nicholson started the final period with bottom position, trailing by one at 3-2. After evening the match at three, Nicholson was able to score a takedown and take a two-point lead with just over 10 seconds left, he went on to add on two back points to win his final home match by a score of 7-3.

In 165-pound action, Rob Michaels got his 16th win of the season over Dominic Ross.

Michaels got out to a hot start, gaining the early lead with a single leg takedown. He continued to keep the pressure on, adding on three near fall points, giving him a 5-0 lead after one.

Michaels kept the pressure on the remainder of the match, scoring on another takedown and with riding time cruised to an 8-2 victory.

In other action, Josh Palivoda was edged out 5-3 by Cameron Moran, while Sal Lascari squeezed out a 6-1 decision over Lawrence Cavello.

The Vikings will finish the regular season traveling to Morgantown, West Virginia to battle the Mountaineers on Friday (Feb. 20). The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
