Michaels Scores Lone Viking Win

Edinboro, PA - Rob Michaels provided the lone Viking win in a 40-4 loss to Edinboro on Friday (2/6) night.

With the loss the Vikings fall to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in league action, while Edinboro improves to 11-4 and 4-0 in league action.

Rob Michaels scored the Vikings only win of the evening in a dominant performance over Chris Hrunka.

Michaels scored the first points with a takedown halfway through the first period. After allowing Hrunka to escape, Michaels quickly got back on the offensive scoring another takedown and adding three near fall to points to jump out to a 7-1 lead after one.

Michaels continued his onslaught early in the second period, scoring a third takedown and expanding his lead to 9-1. Starting the third period neutral, Michaels once again scored shot in and scored on a takedown and followed it up with three near fall points along with another takedown giving him a 15-3 advantage.

Michaels scored again an escape and with a riding time advantage, was able to collect his 15th win of the season with a 17-5 major decision.

In a classic heavyweight showdown, Rashard Goff squared off with a familiar opponent in Joe Fedone.

After a scoreless two periods, Fedone shot in and took the lead with a single leg takedown gaining a 2-0 advantage with 20 seconds remaining in the match. Goff was able to get on the board with a one-point stalling called against Fedone. However, in a defensive mode, Fedone was able to ride out Goff, scoring a slim 3-1 victory.

In other action at 184 pounds Cleveland State's JT Miller squared off against the Fighting Scots Chris Honeycutt. After hand fighting for most of the period, Honeycutt got on the board first with a takedown, but was unable to keep control and Miller was able to escape. Entering the second period Honeycutt led 3-1.

In the final two periods, Honeycutt added four addition points, including three near fall points giving him a 7-1 lead.

In lightweight action at 125 pounds, Jordan Keller had a tough contest facing the Number 1 ranked Paul Donahue.

Keller kept the score close trailing by only three at 4-1 after one. He continued to battle hard throughout the match, unfortunately Donahue was able to get the better of Keller tonight with a 12-4 win.

Lawrence Cavello was once again involved with a close match battling Steve Waite. After one period neither wrestlers were able to score a point.

Waite scored the first points scoring one point off an escape early in the second period and followed that up with a two addition points to take a 2-0 lead into the third period.

Cavello scored a two-point reversal with 25 seconds remaining in the match to close the gap at one (3-2), but despite a hard fought match he was edged out 7-2.

The Vikings will conclude their home schedule and honor their seniors on Saturday, February 14, 2009. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. with the special ceremony before the match.
