Two Vikings Post Victories At Lock Haven

Lock Haven, Pa. - The Cleveland State wrestling team was led by Rob Michaels and Marcus Effner, who both posted victories in their respective weight classes, as the Vikings fell to Eastern Wrestling League foe Lock Haven, 33-6.

"Once again everyone fought hard during their bouts, we just didn't get some results that we wanted," head coach Ben Stehura said. "Rob and Marcus did a great job of controlling their matches and held on strong for the wins. I think we are still improving as a team and hopefully will only get better as the season winds down."

In the 165 pound weight class, Rob Michaels recorded a 10-5 decision over Kevin Dufresne for his 13th win of the year. Michaels got an early takedown and led 2-1 after the first period and extended his lead to 5-2 following the second period. During the final period Michaels and Dufresne had quick exchanges that turned into takedowns and added 3:06 of riding time for the 10-5 win.

Marcus Effner was victorious in the 174 pound weight class, posting a 7-4 decision over Derek Caldwell for his 10th win of the season. Effner had two first period takedowns to lead 4-2 after the first period. Caldwell made a comeback in the second period, ending it at a 4-4 tie. Effner went on to end the third period at 6-4 and added 1:32 of riding time and an early third period escape for the victory.

Lock Haven led in takedowns during the meet, 18-5 with CSU recording their first takedown with Michaels at 165.

The Vikings return to action tomorrow (Jan. 31) with a 1:00 p.m. meet at Bloomsburg.
