CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State hosted No. 20 Edinboro on Saturday (Jan. 28) night and the visiting team proved to be worthy of its national ranking. The Vikings fell to the Fighting Scots - a team that boasts four nationally-ranked grapplers - 40-0.

The Vikings are now 6-10 overall and 0-2 in the Eastern Wrestling League. Edinboro picked up its second EWL win of the weekend after a 23-16 win against Bloomsburg on Friday (Jan. 27) and now sits at 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Ben Willeford (125) lost the first bout of the night in a close 7-4 decision. Edinboro's Kory Mines scored four points in the opening period and had a second period takedown while Willeford earned an escape and a takedown of his own in the first and another escape in the second to move within striking distance heading into the final period. Neither Willeford nor Mines was able to score in the third and the Edinboro redshirt freshman picked his up 14th victory of the season.

CSU losses via pin at 133 pounds and a major decision at 141 pounds had the Vikings down 13-0 after three bouts.

Lawrence Cavello (149) had a tough foe in No. 6 David Habat. The CSU senior took a 2-1 lead after the first period before Habat evened it up with a second period escape. Just before the conclusion of the second, Habat recorded a takedown and took his 4-2 lead into the third. The two traded opportunities in the final period but no points were put on the board and Habat's riding time gave him the 5-2 victory, his 31st of the season.

Brandon Sommers (157) fell behind early but used an escape in both the first and second periods to go along with a third period takedown. His strong effort wasn't enough as he dropped a 7-4 decision to Casey Fuller.

Corey Carlo (165) was on the wrong end of a 7-2 score to Jesse Swink and EU's Chris Hrunka bested Aric Thurn 5-1 at 174 pounds.

Edinboro won the final three bouts of the night behind stalwarts Vic Avery (184), Chris Honeycutt (197) and Ernest James (285). That trio has a combined record of 77-18.

The Vikings now have just one home match remaining on the schedule. CSU will travel to Lock Haven next Friday (Feb. 3) at 7:00 p.m. and then visit Bloomsburg on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 1:00 p.m. CSU will take on Clarion on Feb. 11 before closing the regular season with West Virginia on Feb. 19 at Woodling Gymnasium.
