One of the core guys on the team who will try to build on last year's success...hard-working, blue-collared athlete who can get it done...will once again be the starter at 197.

2003-04 - Junior Season

NCAA Championship qualifier at 197...Won 9-3 decision over Canaan Prater of Virginia Tech to finish third at the EWL Championships...lost both matches at the NCAA's...won five straight matches from 1/30 to 2/15, and won eight of his last 12...finished 21-10 with two pins and a pair of technical falls.

2002-03 - Redshirt Season

Compiled a 13-8 record in open competition...won the Slippery Rock Open on Nov. 23...opened competition at Slippery Rock with a pin over Penn State's Nate Wiehe.

2001-02 - Sophomore Season

Named the Vikings' most improved wrestler after finishing with a 16-16 mark at 184...competed at the EWL Championships, finishing fourth and was an alternate for the NCAA Championships...added a fifth-place finish at the Oklahoma Gold Classic.

2000-01 - Freshman Season

Started the season at 174 and wrestled in 37 matches...finished sixth at the EWL Championships...went 14-23 on the year, but recorded three pins.

High School

A three-time state qualifier who placed second as a senior...ranked fourth in the nation as a high school senior...also an all-league and all-section selection in wrestling...went 36-6 as a senior, finishing his career at 83-37...wrestled at five different weight classes...also was the top rusher on the football team for two consecutive years.

Born June 14, 1982 in Cleveland...son of Charlotte and Ernest Phillips...has two brothers and a sister...married to Melinda and has two stepsons, Jose and Joe...urban studies administration major.
