Domenic Abounader enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Cleveland State wrestling team. 

The 2023-24 season saw Ben Smith capture his second MAC Championship at 197-pounds and qualify for his third NCAA Championship. He also aided in Daniel Bucknavich finishing as the runner-up 285-pounds to earn his first NCAA Championship spot.

The Vikings finished tenth overall at the 2024 MAC Championships with five placers. The Green and White were 8-8 overall and 6-3 in the MAC for the year.

In the classroom, Cleveland State finished with the second-best GPA in Division 1 with a 3.57 GPA and had six individual Scholar All-Americans. The Green and White led the MAC with 11 All-Academic honorees.

In the 2022-23 season, the Vikings took seventh at the MAC Championships, finishing with a program-best seven placers. Cleveland State claimed seven dual victories on the year, with six of those coming against MAC schools. In addition, the Green and White were 5-2 at home.

Off the mat, Cleveland State turned in the second-best GPA of all Division 1 teams for the NWCA Scholar All-America award with a 3.54. This finish marks the best in program history. The Vikings also had three Scholar All-Americans and a MAC-best 13 All-Academic honorees.

Prior to Cleveland State, Abounader was a five-year wrestler at the University of Michigan from 2013-2018, qualifying four times for the NCAA Championships at 184-pounds. In his junior season, Abounader reached the Round of 12 and then earned All-American honors as a senior after placing fifth at the NCAA Championships.

Abounader was a four-time Big Ten placer, finishing third on three occasions and winning the Big Ten Championship in his sophomore year.

Abounader graduated from Michigan with a 96-30 overall record, which included; 12 falls, 12 technical falls, and 18 major decisions. His all-time dual record was 43-11, with a perfect 15-0 mark during his junior year. In addition, he was a four-time team captain and earned the Steve Fraser Award for mental toughness in 2018 and the Pete Cornell Award for leadership in 2016.

After graduating from UM, Abounader was a four-year wrestler for the Lebanon National Team at 86kg. In his first international tournament, he won a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, becoming the first medalist for Lebanon wrestling.

Abounader attended St. Edward High School, winning three Ohio state Championships, twice at 182-pounds and once at 160-pounds. He had a career record of 135-8, including a perfect 36-0 senior season. Abounader was twice named First Team All-Ohio and was the nations No. 11 overall recruit by InterMat and the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 182-pounds.

Abounader graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology from Michigan.
