Heil Tabbed MAC West Wrestler of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – True freshman Logan Heil of the Cleveland State University wrestling team was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

It is the first weekly honor of the season for Heil and the second for a Viking, as redshirt senior Evan Cheek claimed the award in December.

Heil went 2-0 at 125 pounds as the Vikings closed the regular season with a pair of duals this past weekend. In the opening match of the weekend at Bloomsburg, Heil secured the only takedown of the bout to claim a win. With his match tied, 1-1, in the third period against the Huskies' Christian Gannone, Heil was able to net a takedown to post a 3-2 victory. Two days later against Michigan State, Heil posted a come-from-behind victory over the Spartans' Logan Griffin. Trailing, 4-2, entering the third period, Heil tallied a tying takedown in the final frame before garnering four near-fall points to add to his lead. He would end up posting a 10-4 win over his Big Ten foe.

Heil improved to 22-9 on the season with his efforts this past weekend, including a 7-3 mark in MAC duals. With his 2-0 weekend, Heil moved to double digits in overall dual wins on the season despite not starting the season in the lineup.

Heil becomes the first Viking true freshman to earn a weekly league wrestling honor in the past decade.

Cleveland State will resume action on the first full weekend of March at the MAC Championships at Northern Illinois.
