Cleveland State Opens Dual Action This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State University wrestling team opens the dual portion of its season this weekend by competing in a quad dual hosted by Bucknell.

Four programs will come together for a quad dual Sunday, Nov. 11, inside Davis Gym. The Vikings open the event by facing Buffalo (11:00 a.m.), then tangle with the host Bison (12:30 p.m.) before concluding the day with a matchup against VMI (2:00 p.m.).

Cleveland State opened its season last weekend at the Clarion Open, beginning a campaign at that event for the fourth time in five years. Redshirt senior Armando Torres, an offseason transfer who returned home to northeast Ohio, highlighted CSU's participation in the event by winning the title at 133 pounds. He claimed five victories on the day, four of which were of the bonus-point variety, before he came from behind to post a 3-2 win in the championship bout.

Redshirt sophomore Nico O'Dor placed fourth at the season-opening event at 157 pounds, collecting four wins against Division I foes on the day, including two that required extra time. Redshirt freshman Brady Barnett also had a nice effort in his first event in a Viking singlet, netting five wins on the day, including two pins, at 149 pounds.

Torres, O'Dor and Barnett are expected to be a part of a group of at least a half dozen Vikings that will compete in a dual for CSU for the first time this weekend. Redshirt freshman Kyle Hennig (141) and a pair of true freshman, Ben Smith (197) and Dimitri Williams (174), are likely to compete in a collegiate dual for the first time Sunday.

The meetings against the Bulls and Bison are the first in a decade for CSU. The Vikings last faced VMI during the 2011-12 campaign and claimed a 22-15 win in what was also a neutral-site match (at George Mason).

Sunday's duals will be the first outside competition of any kind for Bucknell this season. Buffalo lost its lone dual this season to nationally ranked Wisconsin while VMI lost its lone dual thus far by just three points to fellow Eastern Wrestling League member George Mason.

Cleveland State will continue its campaign next weekend with tournament action as it competes at the Navy Classic Saturday, Nov. 17.
