EDINBORO, Pa. - The Cleveland State wrestling team had three grapplers places at the Edinboro Open on Saturday.
Nick Corba, who was unattached, was the runner-up at 184 pounds, while Xavier Dye finished third and 184 pounds and Sam Wheeler placed fourth at 197 pounds.
Dye earned an 18-5 major decision to open the tournament and followed that with a pin in 1:27 to advance to the quarterfinals where he won by pin for the second straight match, this time in 2:15. Dye fell in the semifinals. Dye rallied to defeat Vic Avery of Edinboro in the third place match.
Wheeler had a strong tournament for CSU. After a first round bye, Wheeler picked up an 11-4 decision in the round of 16 and moved to the semifinals with a pin in just 57 seconds in the quarterfinals. He dropped a tough 6-5 match in the semifinals before falling in the third place match.
Corba won three matches, including a 15-1 major decision, to advance to the finals of the 184 pound bracket.
CSU is back in action on Saturday (Feb. 13) when the Vikings compete at Gardner-Webb at 11:00 am.
