Wrestling Set To Host Annual CSU Open

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling team will host its annual CSU Open this Saturday (Dec. 12) beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Vikings are coming off one of their best performances of the season and a "program win" vs. Ohio State on Nov. 24. Though the Vikings fell in the official stat book to the defending national champions, they pushed the meet to its final match in order to decide who would leave with the win in front of a nearly full Woodling Gymnasium.

The CSU Open will be a full open format, double elimination tournament. The places will be wrestled all the way to sixth-place with normal NCAA rules and seven minute matches with riding time. All post-secondary athletes are eligible.

Of the event, CSU head coach Ben Stehura called it "a preview of the stars" as a number of the younger Vikings will get an opportunity to wrestle deep into the tournament.

Following the CSU Open, the Vikings will begin preparation to open EWL wrestling as they welcome rival Edinboro to Cleveland next Saturday (Dec. 19) at 7:00 p.m.
