Vikings Add Three for Next Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling program has added three student-athletes during the spring signing period.

Joining the Vikings will be Terrell Grant (Tallmadge H.S.), Ryan Montgomery (Madison H.S.) and Jacob Worthington (Milan Edison H.S.).

The trio joins Evan Cheek (Milan Edison H.S.), Grant Turnmire (Almont H.S.) and John Vaughn (Boiling Springs H.S.) who signed with the Vikings in the fall.

Grant placed seventh in the state at 113 pounds this season after qualifying for the state tournament as a junior. He was seventh at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament, regarded as the nation's toughest high school tournament.

Montgomery, who is the younger brother of Nick Montgomery, CSU's starter at 149 pounds, was a district placer this year after finishing eighth at the state tournament last year.

Worthington helped lead his high school to a third place finish at the state tournament this year, earning a fifth place showing at 195 poinds. He placed fifth at the state tournament in 2014 and was sixth in 2013 at LaGrange H.S.

CSU's fall signees also had strong seasons this year as Cheek, a teammate of Worthington's, won the state title at 126 pounds to help the squad finish third overall. A two-time Cadet Freestyle All-American, Cheek was fourth at the state tournament in 2013 and finished third in 2014. He posted a seventh place finish at the Super 32 tournament.

Turnmire concluded his career by qualifying for the state tournament for the fourth straight year, finishing fourth at 135 pounds. He was the state champion as a junior and placed seventh as a sophomore.

Vaughn was a three-time state qualifier and was the state runner-up at 160 pounds this season, helping his team to the AA state title.
