CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State wrestlers Riley Shaw and Ben Willeford were recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) when the organization announced its All-Academic Team over the weekend.

As a team, the Vikings ranked 29th in the nation among Division I wrestling programs with a 3.031 grade point average.

CSU was one of just two EWL teams to rank among the top-30 teams with George Mason checking in at No. 22 with a 3.091 GPA.

Shaw, who carries a 3.88 GPA as a political science major, won the EWL heavyweight title and made his second career appearance at nationals this year. Willeford was the runner-up at 125 pounds at the EWL Championship this year and also made his second career appearance at nationals. He sports a 3.31 GPA as a communication major.

Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic Team contains 118 student-athletes and of those, 28 were All-Americans. Ninety-six wrestlers on the team qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships, which is an increase of 19 wrestlers compared to the 2013-14 team.

The team grade-point average was determined using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. Of the 77 Division I wrestling programs, 56 teams had at least one representative on the All-Academic Team.
