Carlone Tallies Two Wins on Day One at Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-  The Cleveland State wrestling team competed in the Southern Scuffle on day one of the tournament.

The Vikings sent 13 wrestlers to the tournament - John Martin (125), Daniel King (133), Jared McKinley (141), Michael Carlone (141), R.J. LaBeef (149), Nick Montgomery (149), LaTrell Davis (157), Matt Donohoe (165), Nick Corba (174), Xavier Dye (184), Ray Stone (197), Amon Willis (285), and Riley Shaw (285).

The Vikings had wins from Carlone, McKinley, Montgomery, and Shaw.  Carlone tallied two wins on the day pinning Nathaniel Harper from The Citadel with a time of 2:20 and then won by forfeit.  The pin marked his first of the season.  McKinley won by major decision 15-3, giving him two major decisions on the year.  Montgomery beat Randy Shine by decision 5-1, and Shaw picked up a second major decision win of the year over Newton Smerchek.

The Vikings will be back on the mats for the final day of the Southern Scuffle tomorrow morning.  Wrestling will begin at 9:00 a.m.
