CLEVELAND - Four Vikings will head to the ITA Midwest Regionals this weekend as CSU wraps up the fall playing season. Jay Tee (Davenport, Iowa/Central) and Eric Winn (Austin, Texas/Westlake) will travel to East Lansing, Mich., for the men's tournament, while Sarah Galon (Waianae, Hawaii/Leilehua) and Morgan Ungerott (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) will compete in the women's tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.

About the Viking Men
The men's team ended the fall season with a 1-2 mark after dropping a 4-3 decision to IPFW on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Vikings claimed the doubles point, but managed only two singles wins against the Mastodons. Paul Haley (San Antonio, Texas/Judson) and Brett Aronson (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) picked up the singles wins for the Vikings.

About the Viking Women
The women's team ended the fall season with a 1-3 record, finishing with a 4-3 loss to IPFW on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Vikings took wins in the top three singles matches, but could come no closer to getting the fourth point.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
In his second season as head coach of the Viking tennis program, Brian Etzkin has a combined record of 13-48 (10-21 men, 3-27 women). Prior to his arrival at Cleveland State, Etzkin spent two years as an assistant at Western Illinois before being named an assistant coach at Michigan State. He is assisted by David Howell, in his first season.

About the ITA Regional
The Midwest Regional tournament attracts the top players from around the region, and gives the Vikings a chance to measure their skills against the best. Eric Winn will play the second alternate in the qualifying draw on Thursday, while Jay Tee drew Eric Langenkamp from Notre Dame the same day. The pair will also team up in the doubles draw to face Jhonny Berrido and Damar Johnson from Louisville. The women's draw will be completed on Tuesday.

Tournament Flashback
Last year at the regional tournament, Jay Tee was defeated by Matt Scott from Notre Dame in the first round, while Eric Winn and Paul Haley fell in the doubles bracket to Aaron Nickou and Brian Slack from IUPUI. For the women a year ago, Paulina Reyes (Puebla, Mexico/Instituto D'Amicis) lost in her opening match to Alyssa Halcomb of UW-Milwaukee, while Audrey Shade and Amanda Cerny (North Olmsted, Ohio) fell to Szilvia Kelemen and Marina Parashkevova of DePaul.

What A Start
Sarah Galon has had quite the beginning to her career at Cleveland State. The freshman from Hawaii has a 3-1 mark this fall at No. 1 singles, and has teamed with freshman Morgan Ungerott to post an identical 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. A year ago, the Vikings got a combined five wins at No. 1 singles and doubles.

Veteran Leadership
Coaches always talk about veterans stepping up and leading the way, and the Oct. 5 men's win over Western Illinois illustrated that perfectly. With the Vikings trailing 3-0 in the match, juniors Jordan Reynolds (North Olmsted, Ohio), Eric Winn (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and Paul Haley (San Antonio, Texas/Judson) and sophomore Jay Tee (Davenport, Iowa/Central) each pulled out a victory to give the Vikings their first win of the season. Haley's win came after the others had concluded and clinched the win for CSU.

Up Next
The Viking men will return to action as a team on January 23, 2004, with a trip to Ohio State, while the women will resume play on February 1, 2004, hosting Toledo.
