Horizon League Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– The Cleveland State men’s and women’s tennis teams had four representatives on the 2012 All-Horizon League teams, led by seniors Catrine Bjerrehus and Yannick Goossens who each earned first team honors. The all-league nominations were announced Friday evening at the league banquet.

Along with Bjerrehus and Goossens, Maria Lazaris and Matt Kuelker were both named to the all-league second team.

Bjerrehus, a four-time first team selection, posted a 5-3 record in Horizon League action at No. 1 singles, while tallying an identical mark at No. 1 doubles. Overall this year she has tallied a 15-20 singles record, and has 61 career victories, just the fourth Viking all-time to notch 60 wins.

This year’s honor marks the third of Goossens’ career, as he was also named to the first team during his sophomore and junior seasons. During league matches only he tallied a 5-2 mark at No. 1 singles this season, while posting a 6-1 record at No. 2 doubles. For the year he has a 15-15 record, and ranks fourth all-time at CSU with 82 singles victories.

Lazaris picked up the second postseason award of her career Friday evening, earning a spot on the all-league second team. Throughout league matches she tallied a 5-3 record at No. 2 singles, while posting a 6-2 mark in doubles play, including a 5-1 record at No. 1 doubles. Overall this season she has registered a 15-19 singles record and became the sixth Viking all-time to record 50 career wins.
