VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 loss to UW-Green Bay on Saturday in Valparaiso, Ind. The Vikings got a win at No. 1 doubles from Jay Tee and Eric Winn, but could not break into the scoring column.

"It's a little frustrating," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We didn't come here to compete or to come close, we came here to win. We didn't get it done, and it stings a little bit right now."

Tee and Winn defeated Ben Davis and Mat Weiss at the top doubles match, 8-5, while Paul Haley and Dan Singer dropped to Tyler Dorn and Jarett Cascino, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Brett Aronson and Jordan Reynolds lost in the final doubles match to Eric Hines and Derek Gondwa, 8-2.

"Winn and Tee got a very good win over a good conference opponent today," Etzkin said. "They're still unbeaten on the year, and are turning into a very good doubles team."

In singles play, two Vikings took their opponents to three sets, but could not claim the victory. Tee took the first set from Davis at No. 1, 7-5, but lost in the next two, 6-0, 6-4. Winn did the same with his opponent, Dorn, at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, before dropping the next two sets, 7-6 (5), 6-1.

"I felt like we had chances, with guys going to three sets and just playing hard," Etzkin said. "Now, we want to go out tomorrow and salvage a split on the weekend and beat Western Illinois."

The Vikings will take on the Leathernecks on Sunday in Valparaiso before returning to Cleveland. The match on Sunday begins at 10 a.m.
