Men's Tennis Places Third at Horizon League Tournament

Indianapolis, Ind.-In the men's third-place match of the Horizon League Tournament Sunday morning Cleveland State downed the University of Wisconsin-Green bay, 4-0.

CSU took the early 1-0 advantage with two doubles wins. The No. 1 duo of Olivier Dhaine and Jay Tee downed Matt Weiss and Mark Goldin, 8-1. At the No. 2 spot Rob West and Dan Singer topped Eric Hines and Scott Dickert, 8-6.

In singles play CSU earned wins at the No. 1, 4 and 5 positions. Dhaine easily knocked off Weiss 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. At No. 4 singles West downed Dickert 6-2, 6-2. With the deciding point on the line Singer topped Eric Plaushines 6-3, 7-5 to bring home the victory.

"This was definitely a big match for the program," said coach Brian Etzkin. "We've never beaten UWGB before so were happy to get the win and push ourselves further up in the conference. I think our performance was a testament to our men being in shape. The team played its very best tennis of the year."

The Vikings finished sixth in the tournament in 2005 and third in 2004. The men's team closed out its regular season with a 10-12 record (3-3 in conference play), its third-straight season with ten or more wins.
