WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team wrapped up its third straight undefeated regular season in league play and captured its 32nd straight win over a league foe with a 6-1 win over Detroit on Saturday afternoon at Paramount Tennis Club.

The win moves the Vikings to 13-7 overall and allows CSU to clinch the regular season league title with a 7-0 mark, as well as the No. 1 seed in next weekend's Horizon League Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.

"This was a good team performance for us and we had great play up and down the lineup," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We played some great doubles to get the point and that once again helped us play a little more free in singles today."

The No. 1 doubles team of Rob Fox and John Haley picked up an 8-5 win to tie the CSU single season for most doubles wins in a season (26).

"John and Rob have been playing great doubles for the last two years," Etzkin said. "They really feed off each other and their games compliment each other and it has been a joy watching them grow on the court in doubles over the last two years."

Yannick Goossens and Chris Klepatz won at No. 2 doubles, 8-7, while Matt Ford and Matt Kuelker earned an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Kuelker (No. 3 singles) and Haley (No. 5) both picked up wins in singles play to finish the year 7-0 in league matches.

"That's what we bring in these student-athletes to do, succeed in league matches," Etzkin said. "It's a goal to go undefeated in league play and not many people have the opportunity to do so. But Matt and John have worked hard all year and really fought to stay unbeaten in league play."

Kuelker won, 6-2, 6-3, while Haley picked up a 6-4, 7-6 win.

CSU concludes the regular season with an 11:00 a.m. match on Sunday (April 17) against Northern Illinois. The match will be played indoors at Paramount Tennis Club due to high winds.
