INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Butler on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis to fall to 9-9 on the year and 1-2 in the Horizon League. The Vikings lost all six singles matches in straight sets to the league's second-best team.
"We played well at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, and Jordan Reynolds and Paul Haley got a very solid win at No. 3," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "The guys that have had experience playing multiple matches in league play seemed to play better today, and the younger guys saw what we need to do to win in the league."
Despite losing in straight sets, Eric Winn and Paul Haley had solid matches for the Vikings on Sunday. Haley lost at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4, to Butler's Mike Weaver, while Winn dropped a 6-3, 7-5, decision to Kevin Gill at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 doubles, Haley and Jordan Reynolds claimed an 8-6 win over Weaver and Bordow.
The Vikings will try to get back above .500 on Thursday (April 8) when they travel to Robert Morris for a match at noon.
