BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened Horizon League play with a 7-0 sweep of Youngstown State on Saturday night.
The win improves the Vikings to 6-5 overall and extends CSU's streak of consecutive wins over league opponents to 26 in a row.
"This was a great way for us to open our league schedule," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We received contributions from everybody in the lineup from top to bottom. The team is really rounding into form and playing some good tennis and I am excited to see how much more this group can improve moving forward."
The Vikings won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and a quick 1-0 lead. Rob Fox and John Haley teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while Yannick Goossens and Matt Kuelker won by the same count at No. 2 doubles.
Matt Ford and Chris Klepatz made it a doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 position.
"We are really starting to play well in doubles and that is imperative because getting that point gives you a lot of momentum," Etzkin said. "And it could also be the determining factor if you win or lose a match."
CSU swept the six singles contests, all in straight sets.
The Vikings are now out of action until March 14 when they play at Louisiana Lafayette to begin a three match spring break trip.
