Hawkeyes Down CSU in 7-0 Decision.

Feb. 11, 2006

Iowa City, IA-The Cleveland State men's tennis team lost its fourth match of the spring Friday evening in a 7-0 loss to Iowa.

CSU got off to a slow start, losing all three of its doubles matches to fall behind 1-0. A new No. 1 doubles unit of Jay Tee and Olivier Dhaine gave a strong performance, but fell short 8-7 (5) to Brett Taylor and J.P. Ritchie.

The Vikings did show signs of improvement in singles action, but remained unable to secure a win. Junior transfer Dhaine suffered his first loss of the year at No. 2 singles, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 10-4. He is now 3-1 for the season.

"This is one of the top two teams we have played all year and everyone found a time to play at a high level," said coach Brian Etzkin. "If we do this again tomorrow we'll stand a very good chance of beating UW-Green Bay."

Freshman Steven Wipprecht also continued to play well for the Vikings at No. 6 singles, falling just short, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to Aaron Schaechterle.

"All of our guys got better as the match went on so that was a good sign," said Etzkin. "We haven't lost site of what this weekend is really about and that is our conference match tomorrow."

Cleveland State will play again tomorrow morning when they face UW-Green Bay in the first conference match of the spring.
