Mark Barry is in his second season as assistant coach with the Cleveland State tennis program.

"Mark has proven to be a difference maker in our program, helping us make the jump from contender to champion," said head coach Brian Etzkin. "Having him here is like having a second head coach. Mark finished near the top 40 in the nation, and with that kind of playing record he brings immediate credibility to the court."

Barry enjoyed a distinguished playing career at Penn State from 2002-06, finishing with a 119-58 overall record. Serving as team captain his junior and seniors years, he was a two-time all-league selection, a unanimous pick as a senior.

In addition, Barry led the Nittany Lions to the finals of the 2004 and 2005 ECAS regional tournament and the 2006 NCAA Championships. He earned a national ranking of 43rd as a senior when he finished with a 16-7 record.

Barry played on the 2002 Midwest Junior Davis Cup team that was coached by Etzkin.

Barry graduated from Penn State in 2006, with a bachelor's degree in economics. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in economics at Cleveland State.
