CHAMPIONS!!! Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Captures 2024 #HLTennis Title

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the ninth time in program history, the Cleveland State men's tennis team has been crowned Horizon League Champions, as the Vikings recorded a 4-2 victory over Belmont to capture the 2024 #HLTennis Tournament title.

With Sunday's win, the Vikings are now 21-6 overall this season and have won 13 straight matches.

Cleveland State was able to earn the early advantage in the match after picking up the doubles point, as Lincoln Battle and Devin Boyer earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles and JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gelditschka picked up a 6-4 win at the top of the lineup.

Belmont responded with a pair of singles wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots to earn a 2-1 edge, before Nico Jamison evened the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

Cleveland State then gained a 3-2 advantage with a win at the No. 6 spot, as Boyer posted a 7-5, 6-2 win to put the Vikings just one point shy of clinching the title.

Carl Gedlitschka then clinched the match for the Vikings at No. 4 singles, battling for a 6-2, 7-6 win to put the final point on the board.

Cleveland State is now tied for the all-time record among league schools with its nine #HLTennis tournament titles, with all nine of of the Viking's Horizon League tournament championships coming under head coach Brian Etzkin.

The Vikings will find out where they will play in the NCAA Tournament Monday evening, with the Selection Show slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
