Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Travels To Northern Kentucky & IUPUI

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will continue Horizon League play on the road this weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky on Friday, March 29 and IUPUI on Saturday, March 30. 

Last Time Out…
The Vikings opened #HLTennis play with back-to-back wins over Youngstown State (5-2) and Chicago State (6-1), while also picking up a sweep over Baldwin Wallace, improving to 12-6 on the year.  

Battle Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
For the fifth time this season freshman Lincoln Battle was recognized by the Horizon League, earning Singles Player of the Week honors. Battle picked up a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles last week, helping the Vikings to a 2-0 start in #HLTennis play.  

…Additional Trio Goes 2-0 In #HLTennis Singles
In addition to Lincoln Battle, Mikael Erler, Carl Gedlitschka and Kade Mindry also opened Horizon League play with 2-0 singles records last weekend. This trio picked up wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles, helping the Vikings go 9-3 through the first 12 matches of Horizon League singles play.  

Vikings With Strong Doubles Play
Entering this weekend's matches, Cleveland State owns a perfect 4-0 record in Horizon League doubles matches, picking up the early 1-0 advantage in both contests last weekend. The No. 3 team of Devin Boyer/Lincoln Battle went 2-0 on the weekend, while Carl Gedlitschka/JuandeDios Abboud and Nico Jamison/Kade Mindry both picked up one win during the opening weekend of #HLTennis play.  

Seven With Double-Digit Singles Wins
Following last weekend's matches, seven Vikings now have double-digit singles wins on the year, led by Carl Gedlitschka who recorded his 20th singles win of the season last time out. In addition, JuandeDios Abboud, Lincoln Battle, Devin Boyer, Cole Chappell, Mikael Erler, and Nico Jamison all have 10+ singles wins on the year.  

Looking Back at the #HLTennis Preseason Poll
Earlier this season, the Vikings were tabbed to finish first in the North Division of the Horizon League, picking up 22 points and three first place votes. In addition, Cleveland State also received an overall champion vote, sitting behind Belmont who was tabbed as the overall Horizon League favorite.
