Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Picks Up Wins Over Chicago State & Baldwin Wallace

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, earning a 6-1 victory over Chicago State and a 7-0 win against Baldwin Wallace. With the wins, the Vikings are now 12-6 overall this year.

In the first match of the day, the Vikings were able to pick up a 6-1 victory over Chicago State, improving to 2-0 in #HLTennis play.

The Vikings picked up the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the top of the lineup from Nico Jamison/Kade Mindry and a 6-1 win from Devin Boyer/Lincoln Battle at the No. 3 spot.

Carl Gedlitschka gave Cleveland State a quick 2-0 edge with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, before Chicago State picked up a win at the No. 4 spot.

The Vikings responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win from Mindry at No. 3 singles, before a 6-2, 6-3 victory from Jamison at No. 5 singles clinched the match for Cleveland State.

Mikael Erler (6-2, 7-6(2)) and Battle (6-4, 7-6(4)) also picked up wins against the Cougars for the Vikings at No. 2 and No. 1 singles, respectively.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second match then, picking up a trio of 6-0 wins on all three doubles courts to earn the early 1-0 advantage.

JuandeDios Abboud gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while Ty Rothchild put Cleveland State up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot.

Cole Chappell then clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Austin Staiger and Gedlitschka posted matching scores at the No. 6 and No. 1 spots, respectively.

Cleveland State's final singles win on the day came from Andrew Zimcosky at No. 3 singles, as he earned a 6-1, 6-0 win

Cleveland State will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky on Friday, March 29 and IUPUI on Saturday, March 30.
