Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Returns To Action At ITA Midwest Regional

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will return to action this week, participating in the ITA Midwest Regional beginning on Thursday, October 19. This year's ITA Midwest Regional will be hosted by Michigan and will take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

ITA MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Qualifying Singles Draw
Cleveland State will have nine representatives in the Qualifying Singles Draw, including JuandeDios Abboud, Devin Boyer, Cole Chappell, Carl Gedlitschka, Nico Jamison, Alan Matyjas, Ty Rothchild, Austin Staiger, and Andrew Zimcosky. This group will begin action on Thursday, October 19 in the 64-player Qualifying Draw, with eight players from the Qualifying Draw advancing to the Main Draw. 

Main Singles Draw
Cleveland State senior Mikael Erler earned a spot in the Main Singles Draw, marking the second straight Main Draw appearance for Erler. The 64-player Main Singles Draw will begin on Saturday, October 21. 

Main Doubles Draw
Cleveland State will also have five doubles teams in the Main Doubles Draw, with action in the 64-team bracket set to begin on Friday, October 20.  

Midwest Regional History
The duo of JuandeDios Abboud and Mikael Erler will be making their third appearances at the ITA Midwest Regional, while the trio of Devin Boyer, Carl Gedlitschka and Alan Matyjas will be making their second trip to the regional event.  

2023 Fall Campaign
This will mark the third of five tournaments for the Vikings this fall, and the first since the beginning of the month. Following this weekend's tournament, Cleveland State will host the Viking Invitational (October 27-29) before closing out the fall campaign at the Wake Forest Invitational (November 3-5).
