Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Set To Open #HLTennis Slate At The MMTP

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team is set to begin Horizon League play this weekend, returning to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion to host a trio of matches against IUPUI, Northern Kentucky and West Liberty.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings traveled south for their annual Spring Break Trip, dropping a pair of matches at North Florida and against UAB to snap a seven-match win streak.  

Home-Sweet-Home
Following a seven-match roadswing the Vikings will finally be playing in the friendly confines of the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this weekend, a place where they own a 5-1 record so far this season. Since opening the MMTP in 2016, the Vikings stand at 49-16 when playing at home.  

#HLTennis Slate | Preseason Poll
This weekend's matches against IUPUI and Northern Kentucky will mark the first two of an eight-match Horizon League slate for the Vikings. Earlier this season the Vikings were picked to win the Horizon League North Division and finish second overall. 

#HLTennis History
Over the last five seasons the Vikings have combined for a 26-3 regular season record against Horizon League teams, including undefeated campaigns during the 2018-29 (6-0) and 2020-21 (8-0) seasons. Cleveland State's 26 #HLTennis wins during this span leads all north division teams, while the Vikings are the only team with multiple undefeated seasons over the last five years. 

50-Win Club
Last time out, senior Raul Teichmann recorded the 50th singles win of his career, joining teammate Maxime Mareschal-Hay as the two current Vikings with 50+ wins during their time at Cleveland State. Kade Mindry is also closing in on 50 career singles wins, entering this weekend's matches with 45 total victories.  

In The Stats
Through the first seven weeks of the spring season Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Raul Teichmann are leading the Vikings with 11 singles wins in dual match play, while Teichmann and Kade Mindry have a team-best nine doubles wins so far this spring. Overall, Teichmann has a team-best 17-9 singles record, while Mareschal-Hay owns 16 singles wins, in addition to Mindry and Teichmann having a team-best 13-8 overall doubles mark.
