Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Sweeps #HLTennis Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time this season the Cleveland State men's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Maxime Mareschal-Hay has been named the Singles Player of the Week and Hugo Chatras and Austin Staiger have earned Doubles Team of the Week honors.

This marks the third straight week that a Viking has taken home Singles Player of the Week honors, and the second time that Mareschal-Hay has earned the accolade this season.

Playing at the top of the singles lineup, Mareschal-Hay picked up a pair of wins against Penn State and Dartmouth last weekend, improving to 12-9 overall this season. Mareschal-Hay opened the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Penn State's Malik Bhatnagar, and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-5 victory over Dartmouth's Carlos Alvarez.

Mareschal-Hay has played the entire spring campaign at No. 1 singles, posting a 3-3 record at the top of the lineup.

In doubles action, Chatras and Staiger, who were playing together for the first time this spring, went 1-1 on the weekend, earning a win over their Big Ten opponent at Penn State.

Chatras and Staiger's first win of the spring campaign came in a 6-4 decision over Charl Morgan and Loren Byers at the No. 3 spot against Penn State.

Mareschal-Hay, Chatras, Staiger and the Vikings will return to action next weekend, when they host Dayton on Friday, February 18 in their 2022 home opener.
