CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its spring season Saturday, dropping a 6-1 match at Xavier.

Cleveland State's lone point on the day came from sophomore transfer Mikael Erler, as he picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Xavier's Brett Winters. Saturday's win marked the first dual match singles win for Erler as a Viking, and the first time he played at the No. 3 spot this season.

The Vikings forced two other singles matches to three sets, as Maxime Mareschal-Hay and JuandeDios Abboud both went the distance in their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.

"It was great to see Mikael break through and get a win today, he has been playing at a high level and it's nice to see his hard work pay off on the court," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I thought we fought hard throughout the lineup today, and despite the outcome, it was another step in the right direction for us as we continue to figure out who this team is as the season begins. We are excited to get back on the courts tomorrow and face another tough opponent in Butler."

Cleveland State will continue its season-opening six-match roadswing tomorrow, traveling to Butler for a 2:00 p.m. match.
