Mostardi Picks Up Ranked Singles Win At Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. – Cleveland State tennis senior Nico Mostardi began play at the Oracle ITA Masters Thursday, advancing to the second round of both the Main Singles Draw and Main Doubles Bracket.

MAIN SINGLES DRAW | MIXED DOUBLES BRACKET

In the main singles draw, Mostardi picked up a 7-5, 7-5 victory over No. 44 Sven Lah of Baylor, notching the highest ranked singles win in program history. Lah entered the 2019 campaign as a two-time All-Big 12 honoree, and was nationally ranked in singles and doubles last year.

With his win, Mostardi is now in sole possession of seventh place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 74 career victories, and advanced to the second round of the main singles draw.

Over the last two years, Mostardi now owns a 2-2 singles record when playing at the Oracle ITA Masters.

In the mixed doubles draw, Mostardi and Oakland's Ava Thielman went 1-1 on the day, picking up a 6-3 win in the first round before dropping a hard fought 6-4 match in the second round. Mostardi and Thielman's first round win came over South Alabama's Louic Cloes and North Carolina's Sara Daavettila.

Mostardi and Thielman became the first Horizon League tandem to pick up a win at the Oracle ITA Masters.

Mostardi will continue action at the Oracle ITA Masters tomorrow, with a main draw singles second round match against Texas A&M's Juan Carlos Aquilar slated for 4:00 p.m. EST.
