Phillips & Terry Named #HLMTEN Doubles Team Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following a 2-0 weekend that helped the Cleveland State men's tennis team capture the Horizon League Regular Season title, the tandem of Matthew Terry and Luke Phillips has been named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the league-leading fourth time that the Vikings have picked up the weekly honor this season.

Last time out, the Vikings picked up back-to-back 6-1 victories over IUPUI and UIC, capping off a perfect 6-0 #HLMTEN slate to claim the Regular Season title. Entering this weekend's Horizon League Tournament, the Vikings stand at 17-7 overall this year and have won eight straight matches.

Terry and Phillips posted a 2-0 record on the weekend at No. 2 doubles, picking up a 6-2 win against IUPUI and a 7-5 win against UIC. The two wins helped the Vikings pick up the early doubles point in both matches, while their win against the Flames marked the clinching doubles point.

"Matt and Luke were a force on the courts for us this weekend, not only in doubles but also in singles," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "They are both playing some of their best tennis right now, and this is the best time for them to be hitting their stride as we enter tournament play."

So far this spring, Terry and Phillips own a 6-1 doubles record, including a 4-1 mark against league opponents.

The Vikings will enter the upcoming 2019 Horizon League Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will open play with a semifinal contest on Saturday, April 27.
