Mostardi Picks Up Fourth #HLMTEN Singles Player Of The Week Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the fourth time this spring Cleveland State sophomore Nico Mostardi is being honored by the Horizon League, as he was named the Singles Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon (March 27). Mostardi's four weekly accolades marks a league-best, while Cleveland State has now been honored seven times overall (singles & doubles), which is also tops in the league.

Last weekend, Mostardi and the Vikings kicked off Horizon League play with a 6-1 victory against Green Bay, improving to 10-8 overall this season and 8-1 when playing in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

"It's great to see continued success from Nico on the court, and aside from playing well last weekend, Nico also had one of his best matches mentally, which I believe was the reason he was able to win his match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Throughout the season Nico has been playing some great tennis, and hopefully his consistent play continues to lead us to more victories down the final stretch of the season."

Mostardi picked up his team-leading 21st singles win of the year against the Phoenix, notching a 7-5, 6-0 victory at the top of the lineup. Mostardi, who owns a 9-2 record this spring at No. 1 singles, has now recorded all 21 of his wins as straight-set decisions.

Earlier this season Mostardi became the fastest Viking all-time to reach the 20-win milestone, achieving the feat at Barry on March 13, and is now one of 14 Vikings all-time to join the 20-win club.

Mostardi and the Vikings will continue league play this weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday (March 31), before traveling to No. 11 Michigan on Sunday, April 1 for their final non-league contest of the spring.
