CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued action at the Viking Invitational Saturday, with a handful of players advancing in their respective draws, including freshman Nico Mostardi in the main singles draw.
Top-seeded Mostardi picked up two victories on the day, advancing to the semifinals of the main singles draw tomorrow morning. In the round of 16, Mostardi posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ari Gerstein of Butler, and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Carlos Manzanas of Northern Illinois in the quarterfinals. Mostardi will now take on Erich Marbach of NIU in the semifinals of the main singles draw.
The Vikings also picked up a handful of singles consolation victories, with Benjamin Slade (6-1, 6-1), Colton Buffington (6-2, 6-3), Andre Mick (7-5, 7-6 (6)), Jack Santilli (6-2, 6-2) and Mirko Radosevic (6-0, 6-1) all notching wins on Saturday.
Cleveland State went 3-1 during doubles play on the day, including the duo of Mostardi and Buffington picking up a pair of victories (6-3 & 6-4). Also earning a doubles win on Saturday was the tandem of Radosevic and Mick (6-0).
Play will wrap up at the Viking Invitational tomorrow (Sunday, November 6), with doubles beginning at 8:30 a.m.
