Joe Horvath Named Interim Assistant Coach For CSU Tennis Programs

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State head men's and women's tennis coach Brian Etzkin has announced the hiring of Joe Horvath as interim assistant coach for the remainder of the 2014 spring season. Horvath will work with both the men's and women's teams as the Vikings continue their pursuit towards a pair of Horizon League titles.

"Joe has jumped into the job with both feet, he has shown the enthusiasm and Viking pride of someone who has been here for years," Etzkin said. "I'm very pleased to have Joe on the coaching staff as we make the stretch run towards the Horizon League Championship. Joe's leadership, tennis knowledge, and passion can be a difference make for us throughout the rest of the season."

Horvath, who joins the Vikings after the departure of former assistant coach Frank Polito, was a four-year letterwinner at Baldwin Wallace University finishing his career ranked second all-time in singles and doubles wins. Over his four seasons at Baldwin Wallace, Horvath notched a 91-11 singles record and an 89-19 doubles mark.

A four-time Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, Horvath earned OAC Player of the Year honors as a senior after finishing the campaign with a 24-3 singles record and a 21-3 doubles record. Throughout his career he tallied three top-10 single season marks, including a 28-2 record as a junior which ranks second all-time at Baldwin Wallace.

Horvath led the Yellow Jacketes to a 92-11 record over his four seasons, including an OAC regular season title and program record 29 wins as a junior.

Since graduating last spring, the North Royalton native has been working as a Teaching Pro at Peak Performance in Broadview Heights, Ohio.
