Kuelker Picks Up Second Horizon League Weekly Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second time this season Cleveland State senior Matt Kuelker has been honored by the Horizon League, as he was named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The league made the announcement Monday (March 24) afternoon.

"I am extremely happy for Matt to be honored by the league, and even more so for what it means for the team," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Winning at the top of the lineup goes a long way and Matt has been competing well over the past few weeks. He has added a little more offense to his game throughout the season and he is battling match-after-match picking up crucial points for us."

Last weekend Kuelker led the Vikings to a 5-2 victory over Wright State, as CSU improved to 9-6 overall this season and remained perfect in Horizon League play with a 2-0 record.

For just the second time this spring Kuelker played at the top of the singles lineup, earning a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory against the Raiders. This marked Kuelker's 10th straight singles win, and gave him 20 wins on the season. The St. Louis, Mo. native leads the team with a 20-8 record this season, including a 13-2 mark this spring.

Kuelker was also part of the No. 2 doubles team that clinched the doubles point for the Vikings – teaming with Nolan Marks for an 8-6 victory. So far this spring the duo has a 6-4 record, and is undefeated in league matches.

Kuelker and the Vikings will now look to keep their Horizon League record perfect this weekend, as they travel to Detroit for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, March 29.
