KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its strong play at the Western Michigan Vredevelt Invite Saturday, combining for eight wins on day two. Ali ShabibJoe VanMeter and Matt Ford each accounted for two victories on Saturday, while Niklas Jonsson andMatt Kuelker each added one.

"I thought we carried over our momentum from Friday to today and had another successful day on the courts," student assistant Yannick Goossens said. "Our one doubles team of Ali (Shabib) and Niklas (Jonsson) played very well today, getting us off to a great start. They brought a ton of energy to the court which spread to the rest of the team. Joe (VanMeter) and Matt (Ford) played unbelievably well during their singles matches today, especially Joe who was able to win his matches with impressive tiebreakers."

On day two of the Vredevelt Invite CSU faced Notre Dame, Green Bay and Xavier in singles action. VanMeter and Ford were the top Vikings in singles play, as they each went two-for-two in their matches. VanMeter claimed a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory over Michael Fredericka of Notre Dame and a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win over Xavier's Adam Krull. Ford's victories came over Green Bay and Xavier, as he earned wins over Marius Merz (6-1, 6-0, ret.) and Michael Moe (6-1, 6-0).

Shabib and Kuelker also posted singles wins for CSU, Shabib earning a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Green Bay's Craig Cox and Kuelker claiming a 6-2, 6-4 win over Notre Dame's Nicolas Montoya.

The Vikings faced the host Broncos in doubles play on Saturday, with Shabib and Jonsson posting CSU's lone victory in an 8-4 decision.

Cleveland State will close out the Vredevelt Invite tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 16), with doubles action beginning at 9:00 a.m. and singles play starting at 10:00 a.m.
