WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the second week in a row Ali Shabib and Niklas Jonsson claimed a doubles tournament title, earning the Flight A championship at the Purdue Invitational, while Jorg van der Vloet and Matt Kuelker claimed the Flight B title to lead the Cleveland State men's tennis team.

"The highlight of the final day was our doubles play and coming away with both doubles titles. Our doubles play has really been improving this year and we have the potential for a lot of different combinations on the court, which makes our lineup very strong," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I am really proud of their efforts today and the fact that they stuck with the game plan and made it work for them to get the wins. It feels great to leave the tournament with both doubles titles."

Shabib and Jonsson, who are now 8-0 on the season, picked up their championship in a 9-8 (7-0) victory over Butler's Billy Weldon and Austin Woldmoe. Kuelker and van der Vloet's victory came as an 8-5 decision over Michael Tebon and Gary Notkin of Green Bay, extending their undefeated streak on the season to four matches.

"Ali and Niklas stepped up their play again today and really proved that they are a solid No. 1 doubles team. They had a great finals match, playing a crisp tiebreaker to win their match," Etzkin said. "Jorg and Matt have dedicated themselves to improving their attacking play and it I'm glad to see it pay off for them capturing their second doubles title together after winning one last year."

Nolan Marks and Joe VanMeter were also in action for the Vikings on the final day of the Purdue Invitational, VanMeter picking up a consolation proset victory (8-4 over Arthur Dobradin-Purdue) and Marks falling in the semifinals of the Flight C consolation bracket (6-3, 6-3 to Stephen Payne-WMU).

The Vikings will continue their fall schedule next weekend at the Ball State Invitational. The BSU Invite will run from Friday (Sept. 28) through Sunday (Sept. 30).
