CLEVELAND, Ohio - Seniors Bjorn Schantz and Chris Dalman have once again captured weekly honors from the the Horizon League, as Schantz was named Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Dalman was named the Diver of the Week. Both athletes have won each award five time this season, while Schantz was also named Swim Athlete of the Week once. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (Dec. 5).

Schantz added his name to the top of yet another Horizon League top times list on Dec. 2 when he posted a 15:53.98 in the mile free at the Miami (OH) Invitational. He also swam a league-best 4:30.42 in the 500 free and leads the league in the 200 free (1:39.75)

Schantz, an international business and marketing major, owns a 3.9 GPA and is on the Dean's List at Cleveland State. The Loddekopinge, Sweden native is a member of the Horizon League All-Academic team. He also won the CSU Athletic Academic Excellence Award in 2005.

"Bjorn most definitely puts academics first and athletics second," head coach Wally Morton said. "And he is still one of the top swimmers in our league and in the distance freestyle, which requires a lot of training.  To combine those is a testament to his as a person."

Dalman competed at the star-studded Ohio State Invitational on Dec. 2, a meet that was packed with all-americans and national champions, and he more than held his own. The Auburn, Washington native placed fourth in both the one- and three-meter dives with scores of 322.25 and 347.85, respectively.

"That was a great meet for him to be in and compete so well," diving coach Rich Karban said. "There were several All-Americans in that meet and Chris did a nice job."

The Vikings (7-2) have completed competition for the 2006 year and are idle until Jan. 6 when they head south to Fort Myers, Fla. for the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
